The most recognized Italian language certifications are the CELI (Italian Certification as a Foreign Language) and CILS (Certification of Italian as a Foreign Language).
Language proficiency levels are from the Common European Framework Reference (CEFR) for languages, which defines proficiency levels by outlining six levels, which include A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2, from a beginner user (level A1) to a native-speaking user (level C2).
The B1 level certification demonstrates intermediate proficiency and the ability to use the Italian language for everyday interaction and prove the applicant’s ability to live, work or study in Italy. A B1 level demostrate intermediate ability to communicate and understand topics usually experienced in work, school, travel, and recreational scenarios.
